When working with expressions containing polynomials, its often useful to add and/or subtract one from the other.

KEY CONCEPT   When two or more terms are added or subtracted, the terms MUST have the SAME variables and they MUST be to the same power.

Examples:

    • [katex]3x[/katex] and [katex]6x[/katex] can be added or subtracted
    • [katex]2xy[/katex] and [katex]6xy[/katex] can be added or subtracted
    • [katex]2x^{2}[/katex] and [katex]6x^{2}[/katex] can be added or subtracted
    • [katex]2x^{3}y^{2}[/katex] and [katex]x^{3}4y^{2}[/katex] can be added or subtracted
